[Introduction from the Director & Project Description]

During my residency at AIR 3331, I will be doing casting for my next feature film, "The sun only rises if you are awake", adapted from the novel of the same title. It is a human drama full of emotion and intensity, dealing with loneliness and the way we come to terms with rebuilding our lives. At the same time, I will be testing colors, locations, lights, and other conditions for filming the movie. In order to do this, I am calling for volunteers to model in photo shoots.

Please see my profile at:

[What is Expected from Volunteers]

Volunteers will meet the director and model in photo shoots for the purpose of testing the conditions for filming a movie. This will involve taking photos that capture scenes which will actually appear in the film such as, walking in the street, having conversations, daily activities and hobbies, etc. Each volunteer will be given professional prints of the photos taken during the photo shoot. They are also invited to join the artist for a drink and light refreshments (compensated by the director) after the session. Volunteers are encouraged to attend the shooting of the movie in May 2020 (Tokyo) as special guests.

Are you interested in bringing your project to Tokyo's bustling urban setting while engaging with the local community of one of Japan's most unique alternative spaces? Then look no further than the artist in residence program, AIR 3331. Located in the electronics district of Akihabara and established by the art center, 3331 Arts Chiyoda, AIR 3331 is calling for participants across all fields and disciplines to stay, create, and present at the heart of Tokyo's art scene. Open call applications will be accepted until April 13, 2020!

When creators arrive at 3331, our team welcomes them into our art center based in a repurposed junior high school, made up of four floors that house community spaces, large-scale galleries, independent art galleries, creative offices, and an expansive rooftop with an organic garden. From chalkboards to shoe lockers common in Japanese schools, visitors can find charming remnants of the former school in harmony with contemporary art and design.

Residents are guided to their living quarters and shared studio (private studio plan is inside 3331) just a 20-minute walk away from 3331. Up to seven artists from across the globe work and live alongside one another in what is known as the Iwamotocho Residence & Studio only a few steps from Akihabara Station.
