[About Move Arts Japan Artist in Residence Program 2018]
Serving as Japan's primary platform for artist in residence data, MAJ has also put into action its own concept of a "travel-based" AIR program that involves invitation artists traveling through Japan, as well as exchange artists sent overseas. The program makes use of its extensive residence network, collaborating with 2 overseas artist in residencies in exchange, and a total of 6 organizations in Japan. Over the course of 2 months, 2 artists are sent from Japan to Australia and Taiwan, while 2 overseas artists are invited from each of these locations to travel across residencies and create work. Having artists themselves select several locations of travel for developing their research, what types of things,
people, and ideas will they encounter? These results travel back to Tokyo to be presented as an exhibition of research material and a talk event at 3331 Arts Chiyoda.

[About MAJ]
The Move Arts Japan (MAJ) portal site proposes a "journey model" of the artist in residence (AIR) experience, wherein one artist can take part in several sequential residencies throughout Japan.
(made bilingual in 2016) With the constantly updated map of residencies across Japan,
artists can access an ever-growing range of information on things to see, foods to eat, people to meet (even animals), and events going on that are unique to each locality. MAJ aims to serve as an unlimited platform for artists to actively make their own map of Japan.
