3331 ART FAIR 2022 - AIR 3331 Project Space

Although travel restrictions during the pandemic made it difficult for overseas artists to enter Japan, we are now seeing a steady return of AIR 3331 participants from across the globe. For the 11th running of the 3331 ART FAIR, we are delighted to present a project space exhibiting works in progress completed here in Tokyo by three artists in residence - Katherine Longly (Brussels, Belgium), Will August Park (Los Angeles, CA, USA), and Yili Liu (London, UK).

Katherine, who previously joined AIR 3331 in 2016, holds an academic background in photography and anthropology. During this stay, she will explore the world of female sumo wrestlers from a personal perspective using a mind map of images, photographs, and records. Will has worked in film and performance since 2017, and also releases original music under his name. In Tokyo, he will explore musical themes and techniques that reflect the emotional landscape of the city, with attention to the effects of the pandemic. Yili explores the paradox of the "everyday" and the "uncanny" through a diverse range of media, including installation, moving image, sculpture, and performance. For her residency project, she aims to respond to the concept of "reassembly" by transforming everyday objects and practices into experimental installation and sculptural works.
