Exhibition Title: Kumi Oguro Mini Exhibition in commemoration of the publication of her photobook "HESTER" Participating Artist: Kumi Oguro Period: November 6 (Sat) - November 14 (Sun), 2021 Hours: 12:00 - 19:00, Closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
ARTDYNE is pleased to announce a mini-exhibition by Belgian photographer Kumi Oguro to commemorate the publication of her second photo book "HESTER". It was the winter of 2008, wasn't it? I still vividly remember the excitement I felt when I encountered Kumi Oguro's first book, "NOISE". I casually picked up this photo book on the mezzanine floor of the Aoyama Book Center in Roppongi. As I flipped through the pages, I was drawn into its irresistible world. After some hesitation, I looked for her contact information on the Internet and sent her an email, which was my first encounter with Kumi Oguro. After that, I was blessed with the opportunity to hold her solo exhibitions "NOISE (2010)" and "CAPTIVE (2012)" with the cooperation of Ms. Kakishima of POETIC SCAPE, and after many twists and turns, I was able to choose Ms. Oguro for the opening exhibition of my new gallery "ARTDYNE". The mini-exhibition will be held at the gallery. In this mini-exhibition, we will be selling photo books along with her works. We hope that this exhibition will serve as a bridge between the people of Japan and Ms. Oguro. We hope that this exhibition will be a bridge between you and Oguro.
Hiroko Miki, Director, ARTDYNE

Kumi Oguro's new photo book "HESTER" is the name of a character in John Irving's novel "A Prayer for Owen". A free and sexually uninhibited woman, HESTER is at once sensitive and deeply loving. Women appear in almost all of Kumi Oguro's works, and they can be said to be incarnations of Hester. Kumi Oguro's works are characterized by theatrical and cinematic dynamic compositions and colors, and contain a beautiful but somewhat disturbing atmosphere. The women who appear in her works are different from the conventional stereotype image of "beautiful women as photographic subjects," and are hidden in "the world right next to us" as witch-like and transcendental beings called "Hester.
