Artist: Julia Ganotis (Belgium)

Through my time spent in Tokyo, I gathered bits and pieces of used materials, which I hope will help me tell a story and get us to catch a glimpse of what can be called the butterfly effect of the impact we have on our environment. As an artist, I believe it is my role to raise awareness through my work.
I particularly use plastic, as it is a persistently used and found material, as well as one of the most damaging to our ecosystem. Materials begin to hold an independent significance. We are losing our grip over them as they layer on their consequences. With destruction, new things come along and hybrid existences make their way through.
