Artist: Janine-Chantal Weger (Austria)
Janine-Chantal Weger's paintings are agile abstractions which shift the viewers gaze into a different visual world. A construction of brush strokes quickly emerges on the canvas and speaks about the subjects of colour, space, time, order and chance. The artist always paints from her memory, gathering from careful research on the urban environment around her through pencil drawings and photography.
In this way, her brushstrokes are rehearsed and carefully thought through before painting. Brush extensions are attached in order to add further distance between the artist and the canvas during painting. Especially in her large paintings, the artist uses supports and enlarged brushes created for working on a hand-made canvas as a process of painting original to the artist.
