3331 Chiyoda Art Festival 2013

First established in 2010, Chiyoda Arts Festival is an interactive event open for all to join, attracting over 1000 artists and creatives over the last 3 years. The 4th volume in this annual festival sees in addition to the exhibition, performance and market sections, showcases of moving image and music with over 300 participants contributing to a carnival of events. With renowned guest jurors hosting critique sessions (5th and 6th October), a rooftop market (12th and h13th October), live music (20th October) and much more, this promises to be a whirlwind of multiple expressions spinning across 22 days.
This year welcomes the participation of 3331's tenants and staff including an analogue photography exhibition with "Lomography+" and showcases from Naoki Sato's design studio ASYL and Gabin Ito's BOCTOK in a whole range of events and exhibitions which takeover the whole of the 3331 building, from the basement all the way to the rooftop.

【Exhibition Section】 3331 Independents

Now in its 4th volume the 3331 Independents showcases a wide range of creative expressions including painting, photography and installations from 180 groups and individuals, coming to a climax with the Public Critique Sessions held on 5th and 6th October with heated discussion between artists, jurors and visitors.




【Performance Section】 Odorinoba

Odorinoba is a place for contemporary dance, ballet, performance, traditional entertainment, butoh and many other forms of free physical expression, accompanied by the biting commentary of the guest jury, who after much deliberation will award a scholarship of free rehearsal and performance space to their select group of performers.

An open air market perfect for the Autumnal weather with everything from unique art goods, handmade accessories to select jams and cakes spread over 80 booths. Come and enjoy this opportunity to talk directly with eclectic creators and unearth something special amongst their goods.




【Movie Section】 3331 Theatre
12th October (Sat) - 20th October (Sun) 12:00 - 19:00 @ First floor, 104
From CG and animation, to documentaries and short films, some 20 works of diverse genres have been brought together, all sharing the pursuit of expressive possibilities in moving image. Shown for a two-week period in a special venue with large screen, there will also be a public critique session by guest jurors. Not simply screenings, it will also offer the appeal of being given direct feedback from the audience and specialists.




【Sound Section】 LIFE LIKE LIVE
20th October (Sun) 13:00 - 19:00 @ Community Space
The Sound Section will top the last day of Chiyoda Arts Festival. From rock bands and electronica, to Japanese drums, sound performances, and even a group consisting of 14 members playing every kind of instrument, there will even be an experimental live! Live performers "Tankyun", who sing of the laments of junior high students, and singing referee "SAITA☆MANZOU", will be brought to a stage beyond imagination!


■Exhibitions & events in the 3331 building
Works in the corridors and hall! Enjoy exhibitions throughout 3331!
We will bring studios and spaces working in 3331 out of their workspaces to introduce their creative activities!
▶BOCTOC - Consists of programmers and designers led by Gabin Ito. CD jackets and posters will be on display.
▶ASYL - Creative studio led by Naoki Sato. Former projects and poster designs will be on display.
▶Lomography+ - the only company store in Japan of the analogue camera familiarly known as "LOMO". Also active as a base for conveying the culture of photography. Covering wall with photos taken by LOMO, LomoWall will be on show.
▶SWITCH SCIENCE - runs open space "Handazuke Café" on 3rd floor where you can enjoy working with electronics. Schematic diagrams of camera parts and introductory panels will be on show.


■During the event, wide-ranging exhibitions will be open from 1st to 3rd floor. Galleries include akibatamabi21, MORI YU GALLERY, Maki Fine Arts, imura art gallery Tokyo, A/A gallery, Bambinart Gallery, Gallery Jin Projects, etc.

There will also be a stamp rally where you can collect stamps relating to Akihabara while making a tour of the galleries and shop!
