Satoshi UCHIYAMA − stripe(s) −

We hope that you will be able to attend our exciting new exhibition, "stripe(s)" by Satoshi UCHIYAMA.

Asking constantly "What is the painting?", Uchiyama has been working for the past 15 years. At the same time, he has suggested that it is possible to become an art work which does not require advanced techniques, repeats simple tasks at ease, and can be materialized by collecting time involved as labor.
For example, in "It's growing up" (2009 - '15), he randomly picked up 10 different color paper tapes, and went on to wrap them all together, hie another series "injected painting" which injected paint into myriad air bubbles of air cell mat (2014 - '17), etc., the accumulation of endless simple labor has become art, he continues to show them as the paintings.
New series "stripe(s)" has the same theme ad cocept as well. Cut the threads of various colors into the length the his own arms are spread out and display the state where uncountable threads are simply hanging and drooping on the support as an art work.
