MA JIAHAO solo exhibition "Involution society"

ARTDYNE is pleased to present "Involution society", a solo exhibition by Ma Jiahao from Thursday 29 April to Sunday 16 May 2021.

Ma has been selected for the 4th CAF Award, the 22nd Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Art, and the Ichiro Fukuzawa Award when he graduated from Tama Art University. The young up-and-coming artist Ma Jiahou was born in 1996 in Xi'an (the ancient capital of Chang'an) in the People's Republic of China, and has steadily built up his career, holding two solo exhibitions in Japan and actively participating in group exhibitions. Since studying in Japan, he has consistently addressed the question of the intersection between the individual and the collective, and in a recent two-person exhibition, he put himself in the position of a 'tourist' to explore the cultural differences between China and Japan.

In this exhibition, Ma Jiahao focuses on the subconscious mind of people who, in the wake of the new corona epidemic, are becoming more and more inwardly oriented, thinking that their existence is in danger if they are not better than others. This unconscious desire to excel can easily merge into national rivalries, leading to unnecessary competition, disputes and even the outbreak of war. Using the small plastic models of the human body that are synonymous with his work, this exhibition attempts to recreate the confusion of contemporary society through the use of human figures that have been stripped of their bodies and densely implanted, as well as compressed and deformed assemblages of human figures. We will be exhibiting about 10 works, including sculptures and plates. We hope that you will enjoy the exhibition.

In order to express the "Involution society", the exhibition will be open to one person at a time. If there are other visitors waiting, there will be a 5-minute time limit. It is possible to reserve a time at the entrance. In order to realize the concept of the exhibition and to avoid congestion, we ask for your cooperation.
