In this event,the artist introduces "yamajiorimono*works", his ongoing project since 2006 based in a closed down textile factory in Kiryu city, Gunma and shares with us his insights while in conversation with Shuichi Matsumura, Professor of Architecure at the school of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, and Masato Nakamura, 3331 General Director.

Yusuke Nishimura

1976 Born in Fukuoka
2001 MFA in Oil Painting, Tokyo University of the Arts
2003 - Present Organiser of a reconstruction project at a disused textile factory in Kiryu, Gunma. The site is also of signi cance as part of Japan industrial history. 2003 - 2004 Organiser of the "Moriyoshi Reconstruction Project" at the disused Moriyama-Yoshihei Textile Factory in Kiryu, Gunma Prefecture. This project was organised in parallel with the exhibition, "Kiryu Saien", in the same city.
2006 - Present Nishimura has been engaged in the "yamajiorimono*works" project at the Yamaji Textile Factory where he has been restoring the building with the factory owner. Through this project Nishimura and the owner aim to communicate directly with the site in order to "create a new place", and suggest new forms of interaction.

Masato Nakamura
Born in 1963 in Akita. Artist, 3331 General Director and Professor at Tokyo University of the Arts. With a strong sense of social awareness, promotes a variety of art projects based on the theme of "art and society"and "art and education". Founded an artist-led, alternative art center "3331 Arts Chiyoda" (Chiyoda-ward, Tokyo/Akihabara) in June 2010. Awarded the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Art Encouragement Prize in 2010.

Shuichi Matsumura
Professor, Dr. Eng., Dept. of Architecture, Graduate School of Engineering, the Univ. of Tokyo 2006 - present. Vice President of Architectural Institute of Japan. Graduated from the Univ. of Tokyo in 1980 (Dept. of Architecture). Completion of Doctoral Course at the Univ. of Tokyo in 1985 (Dept. of Architecture) Associate Winner, Prize of Architectural Institute of Japan 2005 (Research Theses Division). Winner, Prize of Association of Urban Housing Science (Publication) in 2008, 2015 and 2016. Winner of the Prize of Architectural Institute of Japan 2015 (Book Devision). Winner of the Prize of Japan Facility Management Association 2016 (Publication).
