Based on his concept "collecting the uncomfortable feeling in daily life," Yuya Koyama has been trying blurring and rebuilding the boundary lines between public and private by creating images, photographs, installations, etc., which let us consider about the structure and the mechanics behind our daily life.
Aside from his solo activities, Koyama joins the artists collective SPACE OPERA and blanClass, and also involved in the planning and operation of the student creative center CS-Lab of the Tokyo Zokei University. Both can be regarded as his expression activities as an artist. (He also participated from blanClass on the Hikikomi-sen 2017)
For this exhibition entitled "Counterweight" which is a weight for taking balance, Koyama shows his new works with the theme of "gravitation" and "balance" in our behavior and communication.

" To construct an orbital elevator for connecting the earth and the universe, we need to connect the space station on the stationary orbit and the earth by a cable, and in order to balance it, also need to use the same length of cable outside stationary orbit and to put a weight on the end of it.
In order to move to the earth from the stationary orbit, we have to proceed in the opposite direction by the same amount.Although we usually do not notice, it is said that all substances have gravity. So, on humans, posters and park benches, there is gravity.
When we aim for a different place from one place we may need to extend the cable in both directions." (Yuya Koyama)
