An exhibition by 58, 3rd year students of Oil Painting of The Tokyo University of the Arts, presented at 3331 Arts Chiyoda.
Since 2012, the 3rd year students of Oil Painting have challenged themselves to hold an exhibition of their work at the end of the school year. A show produced entirely on their own.
The title of this year's exhibition is muni muni, a coined word we created that combines the meaning of three Japanese words: shanimuni(遮二無二) meaning "a reckless attitude", yuitsumuni(唯一無二) meaning "the one and only" and muni muni(無二無二) a word used to describe a soft material in the process of transformation.
muni muni is echoing sayings that prefer the flexible and soft over the strong and hard. We believe flexibility is indispensable in the work of artists as bold individuality is. All this is expressed in the show and the title.
We prepare this exhibition for the joy of viewing of visitors of all ages and levels of experience with art.
