Capping a one month residency with AIR 3331 Open Call, Katherine Longly presents the results of her research, interviews and artwork production via an artist talk and open studio.
[ Artist Statement ]
I was overweight during childhood, so I question the relationship we have with food and our bodies. Japan is described as the country of slimness; its obesity rate is one of the lowest on earth. Meanwhile, eating habits have changed over some decades, pushed by fast food and the pace of modern life. The number of overweight men and, paradoxically, of anorexic women has increased. The pressure we face to stay fit is high. So, how are issues of obesity or eating disorders faced in Japan?
