Eva Pietzcker “Shapes in the Light”

CfSHE Gallery presents "Shapes in the Light", a solo exhibition of Eva Pietzcker who is a prominent German print artist. The exhibition features recent works depicting the pleasant resonance of lights and shadows perceived in mountains and rivers.
Pietzcker studied painting at Akademie der Bildenden Künste Nürnberg and further studied at Hochschule der Künste Berlin in which she majored "Art in Context". She has been based in Berlin since 1991 working as a freelance print artist. She participated in the Nagasawa Art Park mokuhanga residency in 2003 when she began incorporating mokuhanga as her main medium. In 2012, she completed MI-LAB Lake Kawaguchi Residency for Mokuhanga Mid-career Artist Program. She also presented a paper entitled as "Change in my work with Mokuhanga" discussing her encounter with, and influence of, mokuhanga in her printmaking practice.
Her abstraction of familiar landscapes is beautifully expressed by using the advantage of water-based mokuhanga and texture of washi, which inspires a kind of memory and narrative to viewers. This is Pietzcker's first solo exhibition in Japan.
