60 countries, 160 cities, Future Shorts Festival brings the best in short film to audiences around the world.

This Autumn Season features a diverse selection of 7 short films from UK, Greece, Iran and USA, from Live action, animation, documentaries to Comedy, drama and inspiration. It includes Best Short Film - British Animation Awards 2014, nominees for Cannes Official Competition 2013, and Special Jury Recognition(SXSW). Films are subtitled both in English and Japanese, and total duration of films is 73 min. Also we have art installation or performance and music before the screening, and you can enjoy the films while drinking mulled wine in a relaxed atmosphere.


This autumn we are pleased to have on our programme the following short films: MARILYN MYLLER (UK - 2013)by Mikey Please - an animation where Marilyn is trying really hard to make something that is good. For once her expectations and reality are going to align, perfectly; XENOS (UK/ Greece - 2013) by Mahdi Fleifel - a documentary, in 2010, Abu Eyad and other young Palestinian men from the Ain el-Helweh refugee camp in Lebanon travelled with smugglers through Syria and Turkey into Greece. Like so many other migrants, they came looking for a way into Europe but found themselves trapped in a country undergoing economic, political, and social collapse. ; INSIDE THE MIND OF COLIN FURZE (UK - 2014) by David Beazley - a documentary where Colin Furze is a plumber by day - but in his spare time he retreats to his garage and invents all manner of weird and wonderful contraptions, like the Jet Bike and World's Fastest Mobility Scooter. MORE THAN TWO HOURS(Iran - 2013) by Ali Asgari - a drama, It's 3 am, a boy and a girl are wandering in the city. They are looking for a hospital to cure the girl, but it is much harder than they thought. ; WERNER HERZOG DEFENDS DADE (USA - 2011) by Lindsay Scoggins - a comedy whereWerner Herzog shares his thoughts on Miami. ; PERSON TO PERSON (USA -2014) by Dustin Guy Defa, a drama, waking up the morning after hosting a party, a man discovers a stranger passed out on his floor. He spends the rest of the day trying to convince her to leave; and SWIMMER (UK - 2012)by Lynne Ramsay -an art film which enters the mind of an endurance swimmer on a journey through Britain's waterways, using sound and images to penetrate his thoughts, feelings, dreams, nightmares, memories, escape.

Streamed Performance from London at 6pm-9pm screening by Joe Le Tropic & His One-Man Cinema Band

Joe Whitney, avant-garde renaissance man has performed around the World and played on over 70 records (including compilations by Andrew Weatherall and Jello Biafra) with many bands including The Tropics Of Cancer, The Flaming Stars and The Urban Voodoo Machine. His links to Japan include two Tokyo concerts by The Flaming Stars in 1999 and an Anglo-Japanese language version of "Poptones" by PiL released as a Tropics Of Cancer single in 2001 and praised by none other than Keith Levene.
For his streamed performance at Future Film Festival Tokyo, he will appear as Joe Le Tropic & His One-Man Cinema Band, in which he will play looped Bazouki, Ukelele and Melodica with vocals to a compilation of his own short films, which have been screened at Raindance & many other international film festivals. www.flytowhitneysmoon.com

"Trollmors Vuggesang"
A dissolute Scandinavian sailor frightens a young girl with a growled rendition of "The Troll Mother's Lullaby." Film and music by Joe Whitney with vocal by Urban Voodoo Machine frontman Paul-Ronney Angel, with She Rocola and Emma Tornero. Song available to download.

"The Golden Noose"
Twelve artists of London's demi-monde ride the roulette wheel of twisted romance. With Lady Ane & Paul-Ronney Angel, Joe Whitney, Suri Sumatra, Marisa Carnesky, Rasp Thorne, David TG, Viktoria Modesta, Miranda Barrie, Anthony Ratcliffe, Ella Guru, Sexton Ming.

Makiko Watanabe
Born in 1979 and grown up in Yokohama. Graduated Tsuda College 2001, and studied at MA Innovation Management in Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design'11. Currently working as a event creator and artist.
