The Second International Mokuhanga Conference (IMC2014)'s satellite project entitled " Printmaking Studio / AIR - Inter-Nation & Interpretation" will organize a series of printmaking residency and studio's seminar, forum, exhibition, networking reception as well as a trade fair of printing paper, tools and materials, and discussion on fine art printing paper. More than 100 international artists, printmakers, scholars will gather and exchange information.
There are increasing numbers of printmakers working with mokuhanga (water-base woodblock printmaking) today. In response to international demand to hold the academic conference of mokuhanga that discusses subjects on the technique, tools, materilas, market and education, the First International Mokuhanga Conference was held in Kyoto and Awaji-city.
The second conference in Tokyo is hosted by Tokyo University of the Arts in which academic contents are discussed. Meanwhile practical issues to be accompanied by printmaking (not limited to mokuhanga) are discussed at 3331 Arts Chiyoda as the conference satellite venue. Admission is free for participation and viewing while some programs require a registration in advance. Please come and join to the great opportunity of international networking.

1. Printmaking Studio / AIR
Directors Meeting (Open for Registered Directors)

A seminar for directors and organizers of sixteen printmaking studios and AIRs (artist - in -residence) wishing to engage in collaborative projects designed to be of mutual benefit to artists and to the organizers of printmaking program.

2. Printmaking Studio / AIR
Open Forum (Admission Free, Registration is Required)

Place: Community Space and Main Gallery

Date: Sept. 12 (Fri.) 2014, 17:00 - 19:30, 19:30 - 21:00 (Reception)

Presentation by attending directors who will describe their studios, introduce AIRs and explain application procedures. After the presentation, the forum will open for discussion with the public audience. A reception will follow to continue to foster a relationship between the invited directors, conference participants, and the audiences.

3. Printmaking Studio / AIR
Showcase "Inter-Nation and Interpretation" (Admission Free)

Place: Main Gallery

An exhibition in which the presenting studios and AIRs will display their prints, books, photographs, catalogues, flyers, et cetera.




4. Trade Fair (Admission Free)

Trade fair organized by three papermakers, six paper vendors as well as a tool-supplier and pigment maker.

5. Paper Dialogue - Printmakers Meet Papermakers (Admission Free, Registration is Required)

Place: Community Space

Date: Sept. 11 (Thu.) 2014, 19:00-21:00

A rare opportunity both for printmakers and papermakers to meet and to exchange views on printing papers. The event keynote speaker is Elspeth Lamb, the author of "Papermaking for Printmakers (Published by A & C Black in 2009)".
