It is the final exhibition of the Burmese artist, Aung Ko, who is one of the participating artists of AIR3331 Artist-in-Residence "Alternative Tokyo vol.3".

For Aung Ko, drawing portraits is a way to connect with people and understand each other when there is no common language to communicate. During the 53 days at 3331 Arts Chiyoda, he created portraits of the people who he met in the Kanda area.
In the small session that he had with the models, he made pencil drawings of their portraits and learned about each model. Based on the impression he received from the session, he chose motifs from Ukiyoe series of woodcut prints"Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" (1826 - 1833, Hokusai Katsushika) and composed 9 acrylic portraits.
At the exhibition, please enjoy the original pencil drawings and the paintings with the comments from the models on their experience of being portrayed.
