Keiko Masumoto was born in 1982 in Hyogo prefecture. In 2007 she completed a graduate course in ceramics at Kyoto City University of the Arts. She currently lives and works in Hyogo. In 2009 she won the grand prize of Tokyo Wonder Wall in the category of sculpture/installation and went on to present her work in "The Power of Decoration ― A Viewpoint on Contemporary Kôgei (Studio Crafts)" at the Crafts Gallery of the Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art. In 2011 she realized her solo exhibition at Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, as well as joining exhibitions such as "Works in Ceramic" Toyoda Municipal Museum of Art, drawing much attention as a highly active artist.
Masumoto boldly combines traditional forms with the motifs of animals and contemporary architecture, in a vivid form of expression. While referencing the framework of vessels and objects Masumoto also attempts to break such structures, with a determined use of sculptural or delicate painting techniques.
This is Masumoto's 2nd solo exhibition at Gallery Jin and here the exhibition focuses on 7 new ceramic works which include Western motifs, inspired by her residency in 2010 in Philadelphia.
