Lucie Kim
Born as Lucie Ederova in Prague (Czech Republic), she moved to Munich (Germany) at the age of three and was raised as Lucie Eder in an effort to adapt her name to its German Heritage. After her marriage in 2009 she changed her name to Lucie Kim in order to fool everyone into thinking she is Korean. She lives and works in New York City.
She has a BFA from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and received a MFA from London's Chelsea College of Art. In 2005 she established the art + design practice MyORB. She currently teaches at Parsons the New School for Design and guest lectured at its affiliate in Japan. In 2008 she founded the bi - monthly workshop 247.
MyORB
We are an art + design practice based in New York City. Our projects vary from commissioned pieces such as identities, websites, posters, animations and illustrations to an output of self-published work. The work spans across various platforms such as print and interactive, but also includes installations and workshops. We aim for our work to be curious, intriguing and playful.
WAKE UP/ MAKE UP
I am looking for women who will allow me to photograph them right when they wake up and once they put make up on. You do not need to wear a lot make up. The project just shows the difference between the private and public image.
About the Project:
In 2003 I have started the Wake Up/ Make Up Project. Each morning I take a picture of myself immediately after I wake up and once I have put make up on and am ready to leave my apartment.
The project stems from the realization that women only show their unadorned self to a selected group of people. For most women it is only the close family that sees them without make up. The project grew to include other women. The ongoing photography project highlights the difference of the public image and the private one.

For my latest socio-political video installation "The One Hundred Dollar Project" I collaborate with working class communities in all the G8+5 member countries. The project investigates the question: "How many people can be hired with $100, for one hour, and what will they do during that hour?". The installation examines the sociological implications of the lives of modern day working people across borders. As expected, one sees that I was able to hire different numbers of people based on the economic power of each country, who, however, often engage in similar activities (e.g a card game) and who dress alike despite their different cultural backgrounds. The performances, which are captured by a stationary video camera, form an ongoing series of group portraits that will extend to a total of 13.
10 of the 13 videos are completed.
During the 3331 residency program I plan to realize the Japan installment of the "The One Hundred Dollar Project".
